Lisa Greco: “We’re All in Community Together”

Lisa Greco was one of the 91 participants who joined in our Wash and Rinse Cycle bike ride in August 2025. Lisa grew up in the Detroit Metro Area and now works at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She heard about Corner Shower and Laundry through two of her friends who are board members, and this was the first time she had been involved.

First of all, she reported, "The morning was absolutely gorgeous!" But beyond just the weather, the community was bright and cheery as well.

She said, "Everybody that was riding was really enthusiastic and excited. It was a great feeling of fellowship around doing something fun that was also going to be helpful and useful in supporting community and neighbors."

As they rode around the streets of Detroit, Lisa said it was also a great opportunity to share more with the wider community about the great work that Corner Shower and Laundry is doing. Many participants were wearing T-shirts and there was a pick-up truck driving alongside the bikers with a Corner Shower and Laundry banner.

Lisa said, “We passed a ton of people, especially along the riverwalk, and people were curious. Some folks were hollering “Yah, Corner Shower and laundry, check it out! Riding for the homeless!” So it was also a chance to do some of that outreach as well.”

For Lisa, supporting Corner Shower and Laundry is personally meaningful. Her professional background is in the juvenile justice world, and she holds a strong belief in the power of community.

She shared, "I feel keenly aware of how close we are all are to some sort of circumstance that puts us in places we didn't intend to be in our lives. So anytime there's an opportunity to support basic human services, I think it's so important and necessary. It gives us the chance to be people helping people, and see that we're really all in community together. This is a time when someone else is in need of a hand. The next time it might be me."

Lisa hopes that the Wash and Rinse Cycle isn't her last chance to bike around the city in community. The famous "Detroit Slow Roll" ride is also on her list. In the meantime, she's grateful to have had the opportunity to spend a gorgeous morning in the city, growing community along the way.
